WAG Completes Food Support for Vulnerable Women, Unveils Organic Agriculture Empowerment Plan

Women Aligned for Growth (WAG) has completed the distribution of food packs to vulnerable women in Lagos as part of its humanitarian intervention, while unveiling plans to empower beneficiaries through organic agriculture and sustainable food production.

The initiative, carried out in partnership with HIRON Foundation, Bomarah Foundation, BAM Foundation, Helen Otti Women Empowerment Foundation (HOWEF), Feed My People Foundation, Christy Ray Okoye Foundation (C.R.O.F.) and Bimbeads Concept, saw vulnerable women receive 10kg food packs on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Held under the theme, “Together, We Feed Hope. Together, We Empower Lives,” the intervention brought together women-led organisations, volunteers, donors and other stakeholders to provide immediate relief to women and families affected by economic hardship.

Speaking on the initiative, Executive Chair of WAG, Dr. Ifeyinwa Nwakwesi, described the food distribution as an immediate humanitarian response, stressing that the organisation’s next phase would focus on equipping vulnerable women with skills and resources to achieve economic independence.

Nwakwesi, a Growth Mindset and Integrative Lifestyle Specialist, said WAG had developed an empowerment plan under its National Organic Food Sovereignty Programme to train vulnerable women and youths in organic agro-cultivation, sustainable food production and income-generating agricultural activities.

According to her, the planned programme, tagged “Organic Agro-Cultivation for Vibrant Families,” will provide practical training in sack and urban organic farming, hectare-by-hectare organic cultivation, organic livestock and pasture development, regenerative agriculture and other sustainable farming practices.

She added that the programme would also expose participants to healthy food choices, chronic disease prevention and vibrant health, while Tai Chi exercises would form part of WAG’s holistic approach to healthy living.

Nwakwesi said the organisation’s objective was to ensure that vulnerable women do not remain dependent on temporary relief but acquire the knowledge, skills and resources required to produce food, generate income and provide for their families.

She noted that the initiative was anchored on the belief that healthy soil produces healthy food, healthy food contributes to healthier families, and healthier families ultimately build stronger communities.

The programme is being implemented in collaboration with the Iyom Christie Ray Okoye Foundation, Bomarah Foundation, HOWEF Foundation, HIRO Foundation, BAM Foundation and Bimbobeads Concept, with support from stakeholders committed to women’s empowerment, food security and sustainable community development.

Amede Olisa-Achingale, Head of the WAG Vulnerable Women and Youth Impact Committee, is also supporting efforts to expand the programme to reach more vulnerable women and young people.

WAG subsequently appealed to philanthropists, corporate organisations, community leaders, kind-hearted Nigerians and other stakeholders to support the agro-empowerment programme through funding, agricultural inputs, farming tools, land, training resources and other forms of assistance.

The organisation stressed that while the completed food-pack distribution provided immediate relief to beneficiaries, the proposed organic agriculture programme would serve as a long-term investment in their economic independence and wellbeing.

Anchored on the message, “My contribution plants seeds of independence,” WAG said it hopes to use collective support to help vulnerable women transition from dependence to sustainable self-reliance.

Nwakwesi reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promoting organic food sovereignty, vibrant families, women’s empowerment, food security and sustainable development across Nigeria and Africa.

WAG’s campaign is guided by its core values of Love, Passion, Align, Empower and Impact, with the message: “I Change. You Change. We Change. Society Transforms.”
