The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 13 Police Headquarters, Ukpo, Anambra State, AIG Miller Dantawaye, has directed personnel deployed for Saturday’s local government elections in the state to maintain strict neutrality, professionalism and impartiality throughout the electoral process.

Dantawaye gave the directive to the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, as part of measures to ensure the peaceful conduct of the elections.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 13, ASP Chidera Oha.

Zone 13 of the Nigeria Police Force has operational responsibility for Anambra and Enugu states.

Dantawaye warned officers against openly or covertly identifying with, supporting or assisting any political party, candidate or interest group before, during or after the polls.

He directed personnel to perform their duties in accordance with the law, professional ethics and established directives of the Nigeria Police Force.

The AIG also ordered officers to provide adequate security for all stakeholders and ensure that voters exercised their civic rights in a peaceful and orderly environment, free from intimidation, harassment and discrimination.

According to him, the credibility of the police during elections depended largely on the professionalism, discipline and impartiality of individual officers.

Dantawaye urged personnel to remain vigilant, respect citizens’ rights and avoid actions capable of compromising the integrity of the electoral process.

He further directed officers to promptly report security threats or attempts to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the elections through appropriate channels.

The AIG reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to providing a safe and secure environment for the Anambra local government elections, urging personnel to uphold the law, maintain political neutrality and remain professional throughout the exercise.
