Tyson Fury has backed Cardiff to host his proposed heavyweight fight with Anthony Joshua, saying the Welsh city would provide a special homecoming because of his family connection to Wales.
The fight is being discussed for Friday, December 11, at the Principality Stadium, although no final venue has yet been confirmed.
Cardiff is reportedly the leading option, with New York and several Middle Eastern venues also considered during negotiations. However, Joshua’s contract reportedly stipulates that the fight must take place in the United Kingdom.
Fury made his preference public through Instagram after posting a photograph taken at the Principality Stadium.
He wrote that fighting in Wales would be “amazing” because his mother’s family comes from the country and the event would feel like a homecoming.
The Principality Stadium has already hosted Joshua. In 2017, he stopped Carlos Takam at the venue in front of approximately 78,000 fans.
A return to the stadium for a Fury-Joshua fight could attract another significant crowd, but organisers must overcome several logistical concerns.
Accommodation is one of the immediate challenges. Reports indicate that the Hilton, Parkgate and Marriott hotels have already sold out for the proposed fight weekend.

The stadium’s 1am curfew could create another complication.
Netflix, which is expected to broadcast the bout, reportedly wants the event scheduled to appeal to a large American audience. Depending on the proposed timing, that could result in a conflict with the stadium’s existing curfew.
Cardiff Council has said it has not received an application seeking an extension and noted that such an application would need 28 days to process.
The ongoing discussions between the fighters’ teams and Netflix are expected to determine the final venue and schedule.
While an official announcement is still pending, Fury’s public endorsement of Cardiff has strengthened speculation that the Principality Stadium could host one of boxing’s most anticipated heavyweight contests.
