2027: SWAVANY Endorses SDP’s Adewole Adebayo, Targets Six Million Youth Votes in South-West

The South-West Voters Association of Nigerian Youths (SWAVANY) has endorsed the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Dr. Adewole Adebayo, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The group announced the endorsement on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, following what it described as a three-month internal democratic process involving manifesto scrutiny, consultations and town hall meetings with youths, students, artisans, market women, farmers and professionals across the South-West.

According to SWAVANY, the decision followed its assessment of the character, competence, capacity and policy proposals of leading presidential aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group, which claimed to have structures across the 137 local government areas and more than 1,500 wards in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states, said Nigeria was at a critical crossroads and required leadership capable of addressing the country’s economic, security and social challenges.

SWAVANY expressed concern over rising poverty and the cost of living, insecurity, unemployment, energy challenges, the state of public education and healthcare, as well as what it described as the continued exclusion of young Nigerians from political leadership and decision-making.

The association said its choice of Adebayo was influenced by his policy proposals on job creation, agriculture, housing, manufacturing and the digital economy.

It specifically cited his proposal to create 30 million jobs and his commitment to direct investment in Nigerians as reasons for its support.

On security, the group said Adebayo’s stated plans to recruit, train and equip security personnel, deploy technology and strengthen community-based security structures aligned with its expectations for a safer Nigeria.

SWAVANY also expressed support for the SDP candidate’s position on domestic refining and energy, saying his proposal to rehabilitate existing refineries and encourage modular refineries could reduce the country’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products.

The group further said it was persuaded by what it described as Adebayo’s commitment to the rule of law, accountability and anti-corruption, as well as his proposal to increase youth and female participation in government.

SWAVANY also referenced Adebayo’s manifesto presentation in Ibadan, Oyo State, describing the choice of the city as significant because of its historical importance in the progressive political tradition associated with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Following the endorsement, the association directed its state, zonal, local government and ward coordinators, as well as canvassers and polling-unit mobilisers, to commence grassroots mobilisation for Adebayo and the SDP ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The group said it was targeting a minimum of six million votes from youths across the South-West for the SDP presidential candidate.

It also called on Afenifere youth groups, student unions, artisans, market associations and other progressive-minded Nigerians in the region to support its campaign for Adebayo.

SWAVANY expressed confidence that an Adebayo presidency would address insecurity, reduce poverty and promote what it described as a new Nigeria that works for all.
