Nigerian content creator Isbae U has revealed that he once feared his career was over after facing intense backlash during a controversy in 2022.
Isbae U, whose real name is Adebayo Ridwan, opened up about the experience during an interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown.
The entertainer said the controversy was particularly difficult because he had never experienced that level of public criticism before.
According to him, the reaction from the public became even more painful because people who had previously praised and supported his work began posting negative comments.
Isbae U said the situation made him uncertain about his future in the entertainment industry, prompting him to seek advice from fellow skit maker Mr Macaroni.
He recalled asking whether the backlash meant the end of his career.
“2022 was a tough time for me. It was the first time I was going through something like that, and then I asked Mr Macaroni, ‘Is this the end?’” he said.
The content creator said the experience taught him that public opinion can change quickly when a celebrity becomes involved in controversy.
He noted that people who regularly left positive comments began criticising him, even though they did not necessarily know what he was experiencing privately.

Rather than allowing the criticism to derail his career, Isbae U said he decided to focus on improving his craft and becoming a better person.
He also took a step back from sharing details of his personal life on social media.
“I stepped back from posting anything about my life and I kept giving them entertainment,” he explained.
He said his priority became creating content and improving his work rather than worrying about how members of the public perceived him.
Isbae U also spoke about Curiosity Made Me Ask, his interview platform that explores different sides of public figures.
He explained that the concept is designed to show audiences aspects of celebrities that they may not have previously seen.
The content creator added that he would like to interview U.S. President Donald Trump.
Isbae U’s reflections show how the controversy changed his approach to public exposure while reinforcing his decision to remain focused on entertainment and personal growth.
