Actress Juliana Olayode has argued that a woman’s desire for marriage should not be used to question her ambition, independence or sense of purpose.
The Nollywood star made the statement in an Instagram post while addressing what she described as unnecessary criticism directed at women over their relationship choices.
Olayode said women who are happy being single should be respected, but women who want marriage should receive the same freedom to pursue what makes them happy.
She stressed that wanting a husband does not automatically mean that a woman is desperate.
“Wanting to get married is not a personality disorder,” she stated.

According to the actress, marriage has its challenges, and some unions may end painfully. Nevertheless, she said many people continue to see marriage as a beautiful institution and hope to build their own families through it.
Olayode recalled an incident at a salon where she heard women discussing another woman who wanted to get married. She said she shared her thoughts during the conversation.
The actress later found the situation amusing after coming across a “BRIDE” swimsuit that had been gifted to her by a friend in 2024.
She maintained that women should be free to choose their own priorities.
Olayode said a woman can simultaneously value faith, purpose, career, financial stability, friendship, family and marriage.
She encouraged people to respect different aspirations rather than imposing one definition of fulfilment on women.
The actress ended her message by wishing those seeking marriage good partners and happy unions, adding her own celebration of love and marriage.
