‘Don’t settle for men simply because they chose you’ – Damilola Adegbite tells single ladies

Actress Damilola Adegbite has encouraged single women to become more deliberate when choosing romantic partners, saying they should not accept a man simply because he has chosen them.

The Nollywood star made the statement during a recent episode of her podcast, published on her YouTube channel.

Adegbite observed that some women enter relationships with men who are ready to settle down without asking whether those men are actually suitable partners for them.

She said women should instead assess compatibility and determine whether both individuals can build a meaningful life together.

“Ladies, don’t choose someone because they chose you. Choose someone because they are right for you,” she said.

The actress noted that age differences should not automatically determine whether two people are compatible.

She said a man could be younger, older or the same age as a woman, provided the relationship is based on love, mutual support and shared goals.

“Because at the end of the day, we are not looking for numbers. We are looking for a partner,” she added.

Adegbite also had specific advice for older women who are approached by younger men.

She cautioned them against accepting such proposals simply because the attention boosts their confidence or makes them feel attractive.

Instead, she said they should examine the younger man’s character, emotional maturity and intentions.

“To the older woman, if a younger man is interested in you, please don’t make the mistake of choosing him because he makes you feel desirable,” she said.

According to Adegbite, a potential partner should demonstrate respect, provide emotional support and create a sense of safety.

She also advised women who have children to ensure that a prospective partner respects their children and understands the realities of their lives.

“Only choose him if he is emotionally mature and knows what he wants, respects your children and your life, and actually wants to build something with you,” she said.

Adegbite’s message centred on the importance of choosing a partner based on compatibility and character rather than simply accepting attention or a marriage proposal.
