Iche Criticises Economic Crisis Facing Nigerians, Calls for Job Creation

By Naomi Onome

Beyond the security crisis, the human rights advocate criticised the economic conditions facing Nigerians, arguing that unemployment, the rising cost of living and inadequate purchasing power had compounded the hardship experienced by households.

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, President of Ambassadors for Peace and Enlightenment Foundation (AMPEF); Voice of the Voiceless.

He lamented what he described as the absence of sufficient employment opportunities, adding that many factories were either not operating effectively or were failing to provide the jobs needed to support the population.

Iche also questioned the purchasing power of workers earning the national minimum wage, arguing that the amount was inadequate to meet the basic needs of many families.

He noted that households must contend with expenses such as school fees, rent, electricity, water and other essential needs, making it increasingly difficult for low-income earners to maintain a reasonable standard of living.

“There is no job anywhere. I stand to be corrected. The factories are not working. Even if the Federal Government will work, people cannot even go. Why? Because how much? ₦70,000 minimum wage, what can it buy? Can it solve a family that is paying school fees, house rent, water and light?” he asked.

He urged the government to prioritise job creation, support productive industries and implement policies that would improve the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.

According to him, economic recovery must translate into tangible benefits for households, particularly workers and families struggling to meet their daily needs.

Warns Government Supporters Against Ignoring Public Hardship

Iche concluded by warning individuals and groups promoting the achievements of the present administration to reconsider their position in view of what he described as widespread insecurity and economic hardship.

He argued that the government’s performance should be judged by its ability to protect lives, provide employment opportunities and improve the welfare of citizens rather than by political messaging alone.

The advocate expressed disappointment with the administration, accusing it of presiding over conditions that have brought hardship and uncertainty to many Nigerians.

“It’s unfortunate that this government is going without people talking good about this present government,” he said.

He added that those marketing the administration should reflect on the experiences of citizens facing insecurity, unemployment and rising living costs.

“Whomever that is marketing this government should rethink because this government has really brought calamity, sorrow and tears into the lives of Nigerians,” he said.

His comments underscore the need for the government to address public concerns about economic hardship through measurable action, transparent communication and effective accountability mechanisms.
