Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed grief over the death of prominent Niger State political figure, community leader and philanthropist, Ibrahim Wali, the Garkuwan Kontagora.
The Minister described the late Wali as a close associate, trusted friend and distinguished son of Niger State who devoted his life to the service and development of his people.
In a condolence message, Idris said Wali’s death was a personal loss to him and a painful one for the people of Kontagora Emirate and Niger State.
“I have received with profound sadness the news of the passing of my dear friend and brother, Alhaji Ibrahim Wali, the Garkuwan Kontagora. His death is a deeply personal loss to me and a painful one for the people of Kontagora Emirate and Niger State,” Idris said.
According to the Minister, the deceased distinguished himself through years of service to his community, using his influence and resources to support the less privileged and promote initiatives aimed at improving the lives of his people.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Wali was a man of the people in the truest sense. He understood that privilege and influence carried a responsibility to uplift others,” Idris noted.
He further said that Wali’s contributions extended to philanthropy, education, empowerment and community development, leaving a lasting impact on many lives.
The Minister also commended the late Garkuwan Kontagora for the dignity and devotion with which he discharged his traditional responsibilities.
“As Garkuwan Kontagora, he carried his traditional responsibility with dignity and devotion. He remained deeply connected to the aspirations of the people and was a respected voice on matters affecting Kontagora Emirate and Niger State,” he said.
Reflecting on their personal relationship, Idris said he would miss Wali’s friendship, counsel and warmth, describing him as someone who built bridges across different segments of society.
“I will personally miss his friendship, his counsel, his warmth and his remarkable ability to build bridges across different segments of society. We have lost a dependable friend and a patriot who genuinely desired the progress of his people,” the Information Minister stated.
Idris extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora and the entire Kontagora Emirate, as well as the government and people of Niger State.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late Garkuwan Kontagora, reward his good deeds with Aljannatul Firdaus, and grant his family and all those affected by the loss the strength to bear the bereavement.
