Nigerian comedian and social commentator, Mr Macaroni, has said he is not interested in joining politics because of his concerns about the country’s political environment.
The comedian spoke in a viral video while discussing the challenges of advocating for Nigerians and the reactions that often follow when public figures speak against issues affecting citizens.
Mr Macaroni said individuals who raise their voices for the public can sometimes become victims of criticism, even from those whose interests they are defending.
He said the situation can be discouraging because citizens may initially support an issue before turning against those who continue to draw attention to it.
“I’m so happy about how things have been, and you keep talking, and it seems like you’re the troublesome person. The same Nigerians that you speak for turn against you,” he said.
The comedian said his observations of political developments in Nigeria have influenced his decision not to pursue a political career.
“I look at Nigeria, and I don’t think I want to get into the political space because it seems like the political space in Nigeria corrupts the very best of us,” he said.

According to him, some people he once respected entered politics and eventually affected the reputations they had built over the years.
“Men that you have looked up to and you have respected, they got into politics and ruined their legacy,” he said.
Mr Macaroni also expressed concern about the way Nigerians respond to economic hardship.
He cited the increase in fuel prices, saying citizens often react strongly when prices rise but gradually stop discussing the matter.
“Everybody will just talk, one, two days, next thing, e don go, we don move on,” he said.
The comedian questioned the tendency of Nigerians to celebrate their ability to endure harsh conditions.
He said surviving difficult circumstances should not be treated as an achievement that citizens ought to celebrate.
“Nigerians take pride in telling you, ah, if you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere. It’s not something to brag about,” he said.
