BREAKING: Renowned Nollywood Actor Olu Jacobs Dies At 84

Veteran Nollywood actor and film executive, Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

The actor, whose full name was Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, died after a career that spanned theatre, television and film.

His death was announced by his family on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. His wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their son, Olusoji Jacobs, announced the development on social media.

The family described Jacobs as “The Lion of Lufodo” while appealing to bloggers and social media influencers to respect their privacy during the period of mourning.

Jacobs was born on July 11, 1942. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before beginning a career that saw him feature in British television productions and international films.

He later became one of the leading figures in Nigeria’s film industry, earning recognition for his performances and contribution to theatre, television and Nollywood.

The late actor received several national and industry honours throughout his career.

In 2011, he was honoured with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) by the Nigerian government.

He was also a recipient of the Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Jacobs’ career extended beyond acting, as he also worked as a film executive and contributed to the growth of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

He was regarded as one of the country’s most respected veteran actors and remained an influential figure in African cinema.

Olu Jacobs is survived by his wife, Joke Silva, their children and grandchildren.

His death is expected to prompt tributes from colleagues, filmmakers and admirers across Nigeria and beyond.
