Nigerian singer Abiye Jumbo, widely known as Mr 2Kay, has opened up about his fallout with his former record label, revealing that the company gave him only N2 million from the N10 million compensation paid by Eko Hotel and Suites after a 2017 robbery.
Mr 2Kay disclosed this during an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, where he explained that the disagreement over the money contributed to his departure from the label.
The singer said he received the compensation after being assaulted and robbed at the hotel following a musical performance.
According to him, the hotel management paid N10 million, but his record label released only N2 million to him.
The incident occurred on October 22, 2017, after Mr 2Kay performed at the Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless concert in Lagos.
Reports stated that armed men posing as room service personnel attacked him in his hotel room, tied him up and robbed him at gunpoint.

The case attracted national attention, with the Lagos State Police Command arresting four suspects, including Burna Boy’s road manager, Joel Kantiok.
Burna Boy was declared wanted during the investigation and later surrendered to the police. He was arraigned at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in December 2017 on charges relating to conspiracy and accessory to armed robbery before being granted bail.
The suspects reportedly told investigators that they had been hired to teach Mr 2Kay a lesson. The allegations were linked to the legal proceedings that followed the attack.
Mr 2Kay later withdrew the case after Burna Boy apologised.
Relations between the two artistes appeared to improve in August 2021 when a video circulated online showing them together at a Lagos nightclub.
Speaking about his present career, Mr 2Kay said he is now a music executive and described the business as financially rewarding.
His account has renewed attention on the financial disagreement that followed the hotel incident and how it affected his relationship with his former record label.
The singer’s comments also highlight the importance of transparency in financial arrangements between artistes and their management teams.
