Nigerian journalist, Rufai Oseni, has dared the President Bola Tinubu to tell Nigerians how the sum of $3 billion was spent on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, refinery in Port Harcourt.

Oseni’s comments were said to have come after Tinubu told the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) during a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja that the NNPC refinery will come back to work.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Rufai Oseni lambasted the Tinubu government over the contradictory claims about the refinery’s revamp.

Tinubu congratulated NNPCL for the success of the refinery operation in 2024, but now says it will work again. He highlighted the paradox.

Rufai questioned the effectiveness of the $3 billion spent on the turnaround maintenance, implying that the money could have been wasted or mismanaged.

“I don’t want to be dramatic but Nigeria will make you mad as a human being,” he said. You’ll go mad if you try to look at what the government does in this country.

As at the 26th of September, 2024 president Tinubu congratulated the NNPC on the successful revamp of the Port Harcourt refinery.

“Now the president is saying the same refinery that he extended his congratulations on, will work again today. So his congratulations didn’t take? They’ve made this country a joke, you see.

“Before anything, we must know how that $3 billion was spent, President Tinubu, as the father of the nation.

“You spent $3 billion on the turnaround maintenance on a refinery and you said it worked in 2024, Today you are saying it will work again? “No.”
